Background

Committed to keeping up the ongoing digitization of their business, the shipyard wanted to upgrade its SAP enterpriseresource planning (ERP) environment from the ECC platform to S4HANA Enterprise Management—the latest SAP Business Suite software based on in-memory SAP HANA technology. Besides the need to address forthcoming system and strategic risks, they also wanted to modernise their infrastructure and operations.

The solution

After an initial assessment, Cryptograph Technologies recommended a phased migration from SAP ECCEHP 8 to SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 of around 9 modules including:

  • S4HANA Sales and Distribution (SD)
  • S4HANA Materials Management (MM)
  • S4HANA Plant Maintenance (PM)
  • S4HANA Production Planning (PM)
  • S4HANA Project Systems (PS)
  • S4HANA Business Warehouse (BW)
  • S4HANA File Lifecycle Management (FLM)
  • S4HANA Fiori, and
  • S4HANA Financial Accounting and Controlling (FICO)

The project was split into multiple phases:

  • System study and readiness assessment
  • Analysis and design
  • Development and configuration, and
  • Go-live and ongoing support

Progress & results

With over 39 reports to be implemented for BW, 8 dashboards for BusinessObjects (SAP BO) and 50 applications for Fiori, the migration is making steady and successful progress. Around 154 server-side business apps are to be migrated from Java Web Dynpro to ABAP Web Dynpro.

Despite several operational and timeline challenges owing to complexity of government data protection and security clearances, the overall implementation by Cryptograph Technologies is scheduled for timely delivery and is likely to result in improved performance efficiencies for for the shipyard.
